introduction The rich contributions of writers and artists, the interest of a growing community in preserving what mainstream sensibilities miss, and the commitment of the Paradigm staff to the belief that "art is everywhere" have ensured 2008 will begin with as much gusto as 2007 ended. "The Kepler Issue" includes exciting new works, alongside interviews with novelist Louis Bayard, concept illustrator James Clyne, and crop-circle designer John Lundberg. Imagination is an amazing thing denied no one. We daydream in long waits or meander in the mind off to other places when life presents its boring and difficult moments. We transcend. We become authentic. The writers and artists who grace this issue have turned some of the fruits of their imaginations into forms that we can understand, admire, and escape to. In this way, they have created art for us all through their talents and skills. Enjoy what is offered here. It costs you nothing but some of your time. Your imagination will open up to new possibilities. As much as it has been a privilege to contribute to Paradigm in the past, it is an even greater reward-and long-lasting one-to be a reader. Paradigm gives space to new as well as seasoned artists and challenges our notions of the forms art can take. Paradigm has succeeded in reviving some of the literary spirit that we can never have enough of in the world. "Art is everywhere" here. I hope you are as excited as I am about this first quarterly issue of 2008. - Benjamin Doty, former contributor |
