Contemplations on Contingencies  by Roy Dequeant             Bookmark and Share

Conceptualizing the future is easy

Infinite possibilities linger just beyond this juncture

It’s just an impetuous hop, skip, and a jump into

Nothingness

Reality is misleading, imagination is exponentially more substantial

Ideas as a constant, are no such thing

Feathery wisps across the sky

Suggest an alternate historical background

Let go, like a bright red balloon, to drift toward the sky

Out into space and beyond any chance of recollection

Lying on black lounge chairs in dark offices with dim lights

Concentrating on swinging clocks in frail hands won’t even do the trick

It’s done, it’s gone, it’s lost

Snapped back to another morbid absolute

Truth  is suffering, life is pain

Someday we shall ascend as the Phoenix

Out from the ashes of humanity’s so called civilization

A bird’s eye view will show us for what we really are

Insignificant

In the grand scheme of things

Colonization will keep us afloat

For a while at least

While we forget about all those things

We only just learned

From picking apart nanoparticles

Discovering the interconnectedness of it all

Science will be exalted as the most high

Then murdered in the night like we already did to God

We’ll stumble along until impeded by familiar terrain

And squint towards the apex

As an entire mountainside disappears

Sending waves through those huddled

Like aftershocks from an epicenter

Until someone yells

I see it, I shall conquer this mountain

And most will follow him up the invisible trail
