At Paradigm, none of us approach the next issue with an idea, a theme, or a particular state of mind. That also goes for the way we approach our submissions. We review everything individually and on its own merits. That said, it’s always amazing to step back in the end and view what each issue has become: how each piece unexpectedly interlocks with the next one, and creates something new. In the case of The Mitchell Issue, I get the tremendous sense that there was a lot of digging in the dirt this time around. It's as though the the writers and poets featured here have decided to look inward and go deeper. The result is a collection of artists who’ve stripped away pretenses and presented us with polished gems -- works that remind me of what Paradigm is all about.    - Paul Fuhr, publisher
